I was wondering when KMail is supposed to be replaced by KMail2 using Akonadi. I currently use KMail but find it's inability to resume gracefully from a network disconnect when accessing IMAP a serious drawback. I heard KMail2's use of Akonadi would solve all of this.
It would be nice to suspend my laptop with KMail open, resume from suspend, connect to another (or sometimes even the same) network, and not have to restart KMail. |

KMail2 will be shipped when the KMail developers believe it is of sufficient quality to be used as a replacement of KMail. At this time, that hasn't been reached. They currently hope to make a release this year.

It might be worthwhile to test using disconnected IMAP instead of normal one.
I've had no problems with that in similar situations (resume from standby, repeated disconnects when on a mobile internet connection, etc). Cheers, _

I read that as well but neglected to try it since it seems to work "most of the time" but not ALL of the time. So I thought, what's the point? I'd rather just wait for something that works all of the time. But now that you say you've had "no problems", I suppose your success rate with disconnected IMAP is all of the time, in which case I should give it a whirl. Thanks. |

I have been using it for years now, mainly because I wanted access to my mail even when being offline. Avoiding the IMAP reconnect problem was mostly a bonus.

I tried using disconnected IMAP but noticed it tried storing my "All Mail" folders from my two gmail accounts. That's a lot of mail to store locally! I couldn't see any way to subscribe to a folder without having its contents dumped onto my hdd. Is there a way? (Something like a mix between IMAP and its disconnected cousin.)
