Hello, guys!
I am new to KDE and right now I am using Kmail as email client. I have the following problem with this software: I have an IAMP mail account and this account has centern quotas (disk usage control) in the server. I use icedove(the debian "thunderbird")before I switched to KDE. Icedove works fine cuase It downloads the mails to my local folder and do not keep the copy on the server. Thus I will never worry about the quota problem and I can keep the mails for a long time. However, I find that kmail works in a different way compared with icedove. It samply manages the mails on the server and my mailbox becomes full in a few days. This is bad. So, Is there any way to configure kmail to work as icedove(download the mails from the IAMP server to local folders and DO NOT keep a copy on it )? I hope that I've made myself understood. Thanks in advance. ============solution============ I setup a POP3 mail accout in kmail and It meets my needs.

Mozilla/Thunderbird/Icedove have always had this hybrid imap/pop mode - I don't know of anyone else who does. Basically, POP mail downloads everything onto your machine, deleting it at the server, while IMAP downloads a header allowing you to read what is on the server. Disconnected IMAP (DIMAP) downloads a copy onto your machine, but keeps the original on the server.
I think you have two possible ways forward. 1) You could talk to your IMAP server owner and ask whether it's possible to set an expiry on mail - everything older than 7 days, for instance, is deleted. This gives you the safeguard of a copy available if anything goes wrong. You would then need to use DIMAP in KMail, to keep the copies on your local drive. 2) To the best of my knowledge it is possible to set up a new account in KMail, stating it to be a POP3 account, and that should happily talk to your IMAP server, but it will download all your mail, leaving nothing on the server. I've never used POP over IMAP, but I'm assured it works perfectly.
