I take it you have aspell together with its Greek dictionary installed.
Here is how it works for me in kmail: 1. create a new message 2. View - Dictionary (activate) 3. you should now be able to select from all installed aspell dictionaries and it should underline unknown spelling creations Note: this is permanent, you won't have to do it with every new mail. Let us know whether it worked for you.

Unfortunately it does nt work. I have the dictionaries installed:
[dglent@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa | grep aspell aspell-en-6.0.0-9mdv2010.1 aspell-0.60.6-7mdv2010.1 aspell-fr-0.50.3-17mdv2010.1 aspell-el-0.50.3-13mdv2010.1 libaspell15-0.60.6-7mdv2010.1 |

I have just noticed, I have the same problem, the auto correct does not appear to be detecting errors. Also noticed the Kword will not set the dictionary, don't know if they are related or not. |

Hm, I am now on thunderbird and have aspell and hunspell installed, both of which show up, i.e. I have a choice of two dics for one language. Also not desirable. At last, time to tinker again
Talking of which, have you tried it with hunspell?

I just stumbled on the solution to this:
System Settings...Locale...Spell Checker then enable 'Automatic spell checking enabled by default". While I understand the thinking behind this it is another example of a change being made which is not communicated so something which previously worked suddenly stops and we have to flounder around for months - just like when e-mail addresses in Contacts were not being picked up by KMail. (Shouldn't moan but I feel better for it!)
