I am again having issues with my Contacts not being editable and now, today, I can't even 'select' them when composing new email. When typing in the To field, they are displayed properly in the drop down, but I can't tab-complete, nor does mouse-clicking on the desired one in the drop down put it in the To field. I can click on Select, and it shows all my contacts, but clicking on any of them also does not put the desired contact in the To field. I really want to get this resolved. I've checked the akonadi-resource and it is not set 'read-only'. What is wrong? What do I look for/at? Someone here must know, or have a good idea as to what is wrong. I'm at a point where I can not use my contacts for anything other than viewing. If I want to compose an email to any of my existing contacts, I have to type out the email address completely. Currently running Kubuntu Maverick Meerkat 2.6.35-23-generic i686 (32 bit) KDE 4.5.4 (fully up to date) Using: akonadi-server Version: 1.4.0-0ubuntu1 kontact Version: 4:4.4.7-0ubuntu1~ppa1 mysql-client-core-5.1 Version: 5.1.49-1ubuntu8.1 Decided to install akonadiconsole so I could look at things. In the Agents tab there are 32 Personal Contacts all showing Ready. I have no idea why there are 32, when KDE Resources - System Settings > Resources - Contacts contains a single akonadi-resource, and it contains a single Personal Contacts, and it contains four Address Book Folders, and those folders contain a total of just twelve contacts. Could this be part of my problem? Where did all these Personal Contacts come from? Should there be just on reported instance, or one 'per contact' I have, or? Decided to simply see what would happen if I deleted 32 Personal Contacts in the Agents tab. Did so, closed the console and launched Kontact. Clicked on Contacts, and as I expected, there was no Personal Contacts in the Address Book pane. Right-clicked in this window and selected the only available option - Add address book... - and selected Personal Contacts, which pointed (properly) to /home/paul/.local/share/contacts/ where my four folders are located, and in which my contacts exist. This done, I again have editable contacts. Hopefully this will be the case from now on. But it they become uneditable again, I'll just repeat the process above. But this can't be normal in any stretch of ones imagination! Does any of this help to shed light on what the real, underlying problem is, as there must be one.

Today, December 6, 2010, my contacts are again visible but unselectable.
![]() A look with akonadiconsole shows only one instance of Personal Contacts and in a Ready status, so 'multiple' instances now isn't the cause. Does no one have any insight on this? Why do my contacts become 'uneditable/unselectable' yet are visible?

Did the following today, December 6, 2010.
Stopped/quit Kontact. Removed the dir-resource (System Settings > Personal Information) leaving only the akonadi-resource which is marked as default. Deleted the contents of ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc (a lock folder and a stdvcf folder). Removed the ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc folder. Rebooted. Launched Kontact. My Contacts are 'again' editable and selectable. Checked, and found that the ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc folder was recreated, and in it, the lock folder. Something in all that I've described/identified on this must be sufficient to allow someone to tell me whats going on with my Contacts. I just want them to be fully available as they should be. Period. I don't think that's asking to much. Added 2010-12-18: I'm marking this as resolved. The actions taken above seem to have resolved all my issues with my Contacts. I've had no problems with Contacts editability.
