korganizer plugins

Fri Dec 17, 2010 3:47 am
OpenSuse contains a number of plugins for opensync, which I would like to use with korganizer. Korganizer already has a number of plugins available, but it seems to be a fixed list. How can I add the opensync plugins -- or can I?

What I'm really trying to do is to sync my Palm Pilot with korganizer and kaddressbook. I'm running both OpenSuse and Kubuntu, both at the KDE 4.5.4 level. It used to be possible to do this with kpilot, but kpilot of course is dead now. So where do I go from here?

One way (as far as I know) is to use OpenSync to sync the calendar file or calendar directory which is being used by KOrganizer.
This does not require any change in KOrganizer, OpenSync just becomes another application accessing the same data.

opensync for kde 4

Sat Dec 18, 2010 3:35 pm
I've been searching, so far in vain, for packages for OpenSync that will run under KDE4 in either Kubuntu 10.10 or OpenSUSE 11.3. I eventually found RPMs for KitchenSync and kdepim that I could load into OpenSuSE 11.3, but when I ran KitchenSync and actually did a sync operation, nothing happened. I'm guessing that's because the software was intended for KDE3, not KDE4, even though I was able to install it.

In any event, kitchensync doesn't seem to have a conduit for korganizer (or was it kaddressbook -- I'm not at that computer at the moment).

The plugin is under development but it's not really working right now.

If you really feel the need for it, I could even try to make you a spec file for you to build your own package... (although I do not use Opensuse right now)

Do you have any estimate as to when the plugin will be available?

In the meantime I do have a workaround. I run VirtualBox under OpenSuSE and within a Windows virtual machine I use the Palm Desktop. But it's not a very good solution. Among other things, I have to start the sync just right: press the button on the Palm and very quickly go into VBox to activate the USB port, which doesn't become visible until the sync button is pressed. If I'm not quick enough the sync doesn't work. Just to illustrate how delicate this is, it doesn't work under Kubuntu, even with the same virtual environment.
