I just installed KDE 4.6 RC2 and the third beta of KDE PIM 4.6. I get the following error when I try to start Kontact:
Huh? |

Please check your permissions for all files/folders under ~/.config, ~/.local and ~/.kde*
Files should be owned by you, read-write.

Right after I posted the question I went back and ran a chown and chmod (as root) for my whole ~ directory. Everything should be correct.

Note that because Akonadi is used to provide some functionality, you may need to restart Akonadi after fixing the permissions: "akonadictl restart"

I was going to create a separate thread but realized this might be related. After the computer runs for a few minutes i'm getting the following:

@2handband: That message is unrelated, and can be safely ignored.
Another thing to verify would be to check KMail's settings to ensure that the local folders are pointing at the correct directory post migration.

Is there a way to do that with Kmail not running? It terminates when I close that error out. |

Open "akonaditray" and open it's settings. You can see all Akonadi resources, including the "Local Folders" resource, from there.

Okay... I think I fixed part of it; my ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail directory was missing /cur, /tmp/, and /new. Now when I launch Kontact or Kmail I still get the above message, but I get this along with it:
Okay... what's a "valid" email folder? |

I've filed a bug report on this, but if anyone has any insights into the problem I'd still like to hear about it.

I haven't heard back on the bug report yet, and I'm becoming increasingly unconvinced that this is in fact a bug. Nobody else seems to have this problem. I did try a new user... no problems there. I was thinking of wiping all the relevant directories but I don't dare... until I realized what was going on and stopped it Kmail was still collecting my email (and I have no idea where it put it) even though it wouldn't actually launch. I don't want to lose those emails.
Does anyone have any ideas? Why would my inbox folder not be valid? |

My system has ~/.local/share/local-mail specified as the location for my "Local Folders". Try changing your location to that using AkonadiTray.

I don't have a resource called "local folders" in my akonaditray, or an option to add one. You're not referring to "Kmail Folders", are you? |

Not KMail Folders..I don't know what is happening here... might be best to contact the developers directly via their user mailing list (kdepim-users@kde.org) to see if they can help with this.
