Kontact Design Layout?

Tue Jan 11, 2011 8:17 pm
I replied to a former post about the layout of the Kontact suite.
I'd like to revive that discussion and see if there is sufficient
feedback to warrant a redesign request?

Can we have a constructive dialog regarding how this vital office suite of products should look?

Maybe you could start by summing up the ideas/suggestion of the previous discussion?

Cheers,

I like the display layout of outlook. Not just because I'm used to it, but because it is more minimalistic than Kmail. Kmail has too many Bold fonts, and divider spots. It Kmail in it's current form just doesn't look sleek. The GUI needs to be slimmed down in my opinion.

In all things I am simply talking about the layout of the app. the application itself works great!

There is just too much wasted space in Kmail. The long folder list vs the short list? What does it matter? The local folder window? All of these things should be able to be hidden/unhidden with the click of the mouse. The bar on the far left containing the icons is not movable. Why not? I can only not show it, use smaller icons or text, etc...

The email display list with bold weekday list is too clunky. Why the big group headers. Why not crisper fonts with smaller outlines instead of making the days of the week or month grouping sections look like clickable buttons?

I am on my work terminal which uses Outlook so I don't have pictures to post of my kmail settings but the mockup posted by "Brainey Cat" in another post looks much cleaner. Not sure I'd do all that he did, but it makes the application look much more up-to-date in keeping with the rest of KDE4 which is an awesome desktop!
