Kontact & kMail or kdePIM?

Tue Jan 18, 2011 8:46 pm
Been a little bit obsessed lately with Kontact/kMail and it's development. Several posts about it. I think my central thoughts about it revolve around how it looks to the end user. I've noticed that there really hasn't been any redesign going on with kMail. But there is activity in kdePIM. Just wondering if Kontact is being fazed out in favor of kdePIM?

If so, what's the time-frame? If not, why no redesign of kMail? Just curious. I like kMail. I'm just surprised at how 'old' it looks. Also, the kmail wiki page shows pics from versions 2.x and 3.x

KDE PIM is the source code module which contains KMail, Kontact, KAddressBook, KOrganizer and other PIM applications. If you were using CIA or commit mails to monitor development then deficiencies in the current Git commit hooks mean that you may have been seeing activity for "kdepim" only. KDE Sysadmin will be installing improved versions of these hooks tomorrow.
