Hi there,
I'm using KMail 1.9.10 and so far I had no problems with it (it's been my email client for about 5 years). Recently I've been forced to configure an IMAP account (so far I used only POP3 accounts) and my problems began. Here's a list of what's wrong: - checking for email takes many minutes (instead of seconds) and causes KMail to freeze (sometimes even segfault). Freezes are usually 2-3 seconds long, but they happen one after another in series. - KMail resends mails downloaded to disk back to the server. This results in mails on the server geting multiplied (I have tens of copies of the same email) as well as unnecessary bandwidth usage. - sometimes KMail starts checking for new mail and I can't access mails in my folders - only the message about "Downloading folder contents" is displayed in the message panel. The only solution to this situation is restarting KMail. - the same happens when I go to offline mode. The message panel displays the information that I must switch to online mode to see my messages. Can someone help me solve the above problems? KMail is a great email client but right now it's practically unusable. Regards, killy |

Hello
Do you use opensuse 11.1 with kde3? If yes, then i suggest you to use opensuse 11.3 or 11.4 (which is going to be released in the march) because kde does support kde3 anymore... And my first linux distro was with kde 4, so i am not able to help you.... ![]() |

I will be upgrading to suse 11.4 when it's released, nevertheless I plan to use KDE 3.5 (for me the 4.x series is too buggy and too many features are missing from it, so switching is not an option).
Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm using two machines. One is with Suse 11.1, and the other with 11.3. Problems described in the first post concern the 11.1 machine, the 11.3 one has the problem with freezes but mail multiplying occurs less often (almost never). |

So if i have understand right, in all of your machines you are using kde3, right? Then you can try to remove the config files or make a clean install and apply all the opensuse patches... This is the best think you can do to fix the problem, since kde3 is no more supported, even if this is a bug, kde developers will not fix it... Also i would like to inform you that the kde4 after the 4.3 version has been made very stable. In my opensuse 11.3 i am using the kde 4.4.4 and i didn't have any problem with freezes or multiplying emails... |

Undoubtedly, but for me working with KDE 4.x is a nightmare (I testes 4.4.4 shipped with suse 11.3). You said you never used KDE 3.x - believe me there's a lot of missing features and configuration options that you are simply not aware of. For a person that has been using KDE 3.x for many years switching to 4.x is very painful (to be honest I considered moving to XFCE or GNOME rather then KDE 4.x). And still, KMail 1.9.10 was in use for many many years and people have used IMAP accounts with it, so I doubt that my problem is a KMail bug. Either I did something wrong with the configuration or the IMAP server is configured badly. Regards |

Ok then do the following.. Open a terminal and write the following command a) sudo zypper ve With this command you will see if there is any dependency missing... b) create a new user for your opensuse and log in with the new one... Open the kmail and setup your email... If everything is ok, then there is something wrong with the configure files (from your normal user...) |

Please ensure that none of your filters are responsible for duplicating the email. In addition, try switching between the Disconnected IMAP and normal IMAP types.
