I need some help with KMail (mostly old mail directories) installed in KDE 4.3.5 "release 0" running on openSuse 11.2 64 bit. KMail version on the old drive is 1.12.4.

I have obtained a new drive and have installed openSuse 11.3 64 bit running KDE 4.4.4 "release 3" with KMail 1.13.5.

Would like to continue to use KMail but need to import the old mail. I would appreciate any suggestions or summary HOWTO's available on how to migrate my old mail directories into the newer Kmail.

Hello

After the update from the opensuse 11.2 to 11.3 when you start kmail for the first time, it should came out a window which is going to make the migration...

How exactly did you "update" your opensuse?

Thanks to all for the reply's.

Have solved the problem in the following way:

Starting with my old drive(openSuse 13.2) installed and running in terminal mode I went to ~/home/.kde4/share/apps. I proceeded to tar the kmail folder using the command [tar -cf kmali.tar kmail] producing the file kmail.tar and copied this to a flash drive. I copied relevant kmail files stored at ~/home/.kde4/share/apps/config to the same flash drive.

I installed the new drive(openSuse 13.3). Proceeded to copy and extract the kmail.tar file to the /home/kde4/share/apps directory. I then copied the relevant kmail files taken from /home/kde4/share/config on the old drive to the same directory on the new drive.

All old email files were converted in tact. I did have to reenter the addresses and email SMTP data but that was not a problem. KMail 1.13.5 running on KDE 4.4.4 "release 3" is running fine on openSuse 13.3

You mean opensuse 11.x not opensuse 13.x :) Next time use the akonaditray... Right click on it and create a backup. Then Restore the the backup file. It always worked for me....

KMail 1.x does not use Akonadi.

In this case, KMail also has some configuration stored in ~/.kde4/share/config/
I recommend (outside KDE) copying the content of ~/.kde4/share into a tarball, then extracting that into a new user account on the new machine (outside KDE once more)
