Hello,
I just made a downgrade to KDE 4.4.4. Now, when I want to start Kontact I see a window "Starting Akonadi server...." and nothing happens. Kontact cannot be used. Interesting: when I open a konsole and invoke "akonadictl start" I get "Akonadi is already running." This is weird. Should I delete ~/.config/akonadi to restart Akonadi from scratch? Or what to do? Thanx Addendum: Okay, have now deleted ~/.config/akonadi and it is fine now, I just hope I have not deleted anything important.... What data does ~/.config/akonadi hold, after all? |

~/.config/akonadi contains the settings used by Akonadi to access it's resources. As long as you can access all your information fine under KDE 4.4.4, then you do not need to be concerned about it.

Okay, so ~/.config/akonadi does not store my KDE contacts or other stuff? I thought when adding a new contact to Kontact they are stored in the Akonadi data base. So I do not lose anything when deleting that folder? I have now deleted that folder and Akonadi starts now just fine!

Akonadi is merely a cache for PIM information. It retrieves information from Resources, which can be located anywhere (including on your local system, external servers, etc). When a change to information is made, Akonadi uses the resource to update the original source of information.
The data sources used by Akonadi can be viewed in it's settings panel, accessible through Akonadi Tray. It usually interfaces with data in ~/.local or ~/.kde*
