I have been using Kmail for some time as my email client, but I'm unsure where it is getting its contact information. I've entered a series of email addresses into the KAddress Book, but they don't register in Kmail. After I send an email to somebody it seems to store them, but I can't find where this is either. Finally, how can I create a CSV card to port all of my contacts to a gmail account? Thanks in advance.

I assume you are using KDE 4.5/4.6?
To make your contacts available in KMail you need to add your address book as a KDE Resource in System Settings - you should find what you need in this post: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=92959 The easiest way to get all your contacts into a gmail account is to add a google address book resource. Copy your contacts into this address book and they will automatically sync with your Gmail account. See this post for details: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=93352

Well I figured out the problem was that I was using "Personal Contacts" instead of the Address Book resource. You mentioned in your post that using the "resource" option was unfavorable, but I don't understand why. The ability to sync with google is extremely useful, though, thank you so much!

My understanding is that 'resource' has been superseded, there's more information on it here:

Maybe what you are thinking of is that KDE Resources is no longer a separate group in System Settings, but is now under Personal Information.
neji49: Personal Contacts is the default for an akonadi addressbook. It should be pointing to ~/.local/share/contacts. If you have Address Book set to point to that directory the effect will be the same. If you have more than one addressbook defined you will need to set one of them as default. Again, that is done in System Settings > Personal Information > KDE Resources.
