Kubuntu10.10
Platform Version 4.6.0(KDE 4.6.0) Version: 0.97-29ubuntu60 Description: GRand Unified Bootloader (Legacy version) desktop computer AMD 9600 Quad Core 2300mhz 64 bit GPU PNY 9600 nVidia GeForce 500mb ddr2 SDRAM 4gb Axiom EEC DDR2 SDRAM 6700mhz HDD Maxtor internal SATA 500gb Optical Drive internal SATA DVDRW 16X Kmail 1.13.5 After installing an upgrade, Kmail behaves strangely. All incoming emails arrive in the 'trash bin'. The Inbox remains empty. All other functions appear to work fine. I sent myself emails that arrived in the 'trash bin'. Friends have written; their emails arrive in the 'trash bin'. Unable to find a solution in the forums, I installed KDE 4.6.0 today, in the hope that the problem may be corrected. That was not the case. I am not too experienced, however, I can follow directions. Additionally, I entered 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' hoping to solve a broken package. It did not work. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! |

I would suggest verifying the configuration of your Email Filters, accessible from the Settings menu of KMail. Remove all filters, then setup any anti-spam and anti-virus filters you use using the respective wizards.

I have set up the spam filter before, however, I do not understand what actually is happening. Using the Anti-Spam Wizard, there are 3 check-box items labeled as follows: Mark detected spam messages as read. (I checked this box.) Move know spam to: Local Folders/trash (I checked this box, too.) Move probable spam to: Local Folders/inbox (I did not check this box.) The next window is 'Finish'. Under the option 'Configure Filters',"Match all of the following" is marked, nothing is presently in any of the boxes except where it says 'Move into Folder'with the Filter Action "Local Folders/trash"Under the Advanced Tab, Apply this filter to incoming messages: is checked and 'from all accounts is marked. Apply this filter to manual filtering is checked and If this filter matches, stop processing here is checked. Under Account Name : Type, svollom is checked and the account is POP3. NOTHING, SO FAR, HAS BEEN APPLIED. Being inexperienced, I am not sure how to set up the conditions in the configuration. When I attempted to configure the 'Toolbars', I added the Spam and Ham options. They do not appear on the toolbar, though. Not really understanding the 'Spam filtering process', I planned to mark all good email as Ham and all that I did not want as Spam. When I configured kmail before, I believe that was the way I trained the filter to work. I don't remember selecting the various choices of configuring the POP filter. I was planning to do that on this installation, but wanted to get emails arriving in the Inbox first. I am old and use my computer for communicating with others, entertainment, and something to keep my mind active. I don't use it for business, so perhaps configuring Spam filters is presumptuous of me. Basically, I would like to know how to operate and use my computer properly. The good things I learn, I will share with others. If you have any recommendations on how to properly set up Spam filters, I would appreciate the knowledge, unless it appears a waste of your time. Thanks, in any event. |

Can you please post a screenshot of the various filters you have setup? Two of the filters correspond to the Spam and Ham options which are added to the toolbar, and don't do anything unless the toolbar buttons are pressed.
You can use KSnapshot and websites such as imagebin.org to upload them. Simply post the links here.

I sent 10 png's under the name Shabakthanai to imagebin.org. The contents are each page and option of the Spam Wizzard and filters relating to Spam. I hope it is what you want. Until responding to your reply, I had not even installed SpamAssassin; it is now installed. Apparently installation of the SpamAssassin corrected the problem. In any event, just before I was ready to click on Submit, below, I checked Kmail again. Two emails arrived in the Inbox. To confirm, I wrote myself a little email and sent it; it arrived in my Inbox as it was supposed to. I still do not understand what I did that changed the mail. Even the newly installed SpamAssassin does not have any filters yet. I hope there is a tutorial recommending how to configure SpamAssassin, so that it will work as desired. Thanks for your help. I will keep the post open for a few days, just in case someone has an idea of what was the problem and what fixed the problem, for the benifit of others. I hope I did not waste too much of your time. ![]() |
