Hi all,
I would like to find a way to keep all my email addresses in a single remote addressbook, and access/edit it from different machines. Currently I'm using a remote file via fish, but I have some erratic behavior: - new contacts are not added to the file - sometimes contacts are lost - not all contacts are visible in kmail editor, when I click on select address, nor with autocompletion. I have the bad feeling that Akonadi is actually updating some local database, even though the only addressbook I have in my KDE resources is the remote one. Is there a way to keep all my contacts in sync, possibly using a centralized server, but without having to install things on the server or run commands as root? I'm using KDE 4.4.5, Kontact 4.4.8 (Kubuntu Lucid) on all machines (except the server which is not really under my control). All suggestions are welcome, thanks! |

I suspect you may be better off upgrading first. There have been changes in the way addressbooks are handled. Within 4.6 you can configure resources like addressbooks under System settings>Personal information
I got caught out by the changes in the way this is handled for a while, as a result of which I temporarily could not edit my previous addressbook, though I could copy data from it, and ended up creating a second.

You mean KDE 4.6? I would like to be sure that I can use a remote addressbook seamlessly before upgrading on three machines. Thanks |

Upgraded to 4.7.2, and still no sensible way of syncronizing.
I noticed a new interesting "feature". When I tried to use a remote file/folder as addressbook, as fish://host/path, I use to get an error, complaining that only local paths are allowed. Now, using akonadi, the system sets instead the addressbook location as 'path' on the local system, ignoring 'fish://host' prefix, all this without any warning or notification. |
