Hi,
I´d like to use kmail as a stand alone program on gnome in debian 6.0. I installed kmail with all its dependent libraries in debian´s synaptic. I got kmail successfuly running with almost all colours configured in Settings > Configure Kmail > Appearence > Colors. However for the background color (I prefer black) I could not find a way to configure. Kmail takes the background color from kde´s "system settings", which are not installed (yet). Do I have to install whole kde-stuff, to get kmail´s background black or is there a shorter way possible. btw: On the german Ubuntu-kmail-wiki I red, that kmail is running with kde or stand alone. Thanks for help |

Try executing "kcmshell4 colors" to access the System Settings Color settings.

KMail needs to support color schemes. When you choose a color scheme with a dark background like Obsidian Coast, some display elements, e.g. quotations, are unreadable, and you have to adjust each one by hand.

I gather you do restart KMail after changing the colour scheme?
