I have set up my usual filters and all but one are ok. The one that isn't working is "from is in address book". It basically doesn't work at all.
I use this one in part to make sure I don't miss place any personal mail. Not sure if this is down to the address book side. Email addresses auto complete ok but if I use tools address book it brings up 2. Default address book and address book. Both appear to have initially contained the same thing. Default looks to have grown by the one further address I have added. The address book was imported from kde 3.x Also notice in this part that the far right hand pane isn't updating properly. That seem to be consistently blank now. John OpenSuse 11.4 KDE4.6.0 Issue 6 -

Recent Addresses are stored in kmailrc, not in the addressbook, so that's why the behaviour is different. The first thing to check is that your resources are set up correctly. Try System Settings > Personal Information > KDE Resources. Make sure that your default address book points to ~/.local/share/contacts although there is nothing to stop you having your old ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf as a secondary address book. The new one needs to be of type VCard directory, and the old one is type VCard file.

Just checked again and email address do auto complete from the address book. It even tells me that it's using the default. I just typed J and as expected this bought up several including some one that I have not contacted for a couple of years. I only updated a month ago. Glad to see Kmail still does do this correctly. The only problem in this area has been that from time to time people use different names before the < actual email address > and the save to address book will not allow new ones to be added without the deleting the old one. As some can use several variations this can be very annoying. This seems to have been fixed, not sure yet.
On resources. Hard to say. They point at /home/john/.kde4/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf and are described as the default address book so seem to match the address book that is been updated as I add others. I've no need to use my old address book as it was imported successfully. Many seem to have found that aspect ok. I didn't try to import the filters as wanted to make a couple of changes anyway. I suspect that the other address book is just my original import. John -

/home/john/.kde4/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf is your old addressbook. Please check /home/john/.local/share/contacts - are there many files there with peculiar names? If so, that is your akonadi converted addressbook, and that's the one that should be your default.

No contacts directory. Have found an akonadi self test output file that indicates several errors. Also from the kde mailing list it seems the vcards are the best bet at the moment. I think that the problem is that "in address book is bugged" or maybe not even implemented yet (I hope as it's a very useful filter).

I would have thought that the filter will be checking the "official" place for the addressbook, which is ~/.local/share/contacts. If you don't have that your migration failed. You say that you found a self-test that indicates errors - you need to resolve those first. There is plenty of information on both UserBase and the forum about such things.
Precisely. That what the new addressbook will give you. The old one is a single file with records concatenated.

It looks like I may be stuck in buggy land and suse have deliberately retained the single file. I under stand there is a shift from mysql to sqlite3. All the error messages in the akonadi self test file relate to mysql and it looks to be set up for mysql.

As far as I know, mysql is what is being used, and I'm not aware of any such shift. Those errors must be resolved first. Have you worked through http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi_and_AddressBook and http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi_4.4/Troubleshooting, and the pages linked from there? There is the question of Apparmor, too, but that's dealt with on the Akonadi troubleshooting page.

Thanks I will take a look at those.
On the database change I'm more or less repeating what I was told via the mailing list. It seems it is possible to switch on some disto's. I haven't checked opensuse for the correct files. The rc files mentioned do tie up to a certain extent only I have just one akonadiserverrc file. This may be because it's inactive or opensuse. One concern in any case is your mention of auto complete email addresses not working from the address book. I would hate to loose that. -

Autocomplete will work from the addressbook, once it is set up correctly. What happens is that you will see suggestions from both the addressbook and Recent Addresses. It's those Recent Addresses that are not read from the addressbook, and as far as I know that doesn't change with KMail 2, but I could be wrong there.
