Sorry guys, but i have to open this new thread:
i recently opened a kmail2 thread (viewtopic.php?f=20&t=95870) complaining about the kmail2 upgrade (i have problems in restoring old kmail1 settings and filters on kmail2 and i can't even send messages).

Now i'm opening this new thread complaining about KJots. Besides the kmail problems, i had some problems in all the kontact sub-programs; i solved more or less every problem,except from kjots.
I cannot restore the .books files (under .kde/share/apps/kjots) were my old notes where saved into, and now i just have an empty list of pages. I tried to play a bit with akonadi settings and resources, but nothing happened.
Needless to say that i need my kjots notes back asap!

Could you give me some tips?

PS: hope this huge changes in kmail/kontact will be worthful and will lead to great benefits in the future....but for now it's blowing my mind!

The old kjots had an import feature. That seems to have disappeared since the upgrade. So, my solution was to take all my .book files over to the last desktop that I'd not yet updated and import them into kjots there. Then, I exported them out as text and as html (both of which are much easier to read using kwrite or konqueror respectively.

Sorry, but the solution appears to be to manually reenter all the books back in. It helps to have text or html backups of the jots — if you have a live CD with the old kontact suite on it, that could be worth loading up.

I don't think there's much of a point in blaming the devs at this point. It's not going to solve the problem and will only lead to demoralize the only ones working to fix it.

First of all, i'm always against blaming the developers, so i apologize if it ever looked like that

I've already tried to copy my old .book files in the new kjots folder, but nothing...
Now i'll try to do as you suggest: i'll export my old kjots from another previous kde, than i'll copy them in the new kjots folder.
Just a question: where is your current new kjots folder exactly?
And, did you manage to read your old notes with the new kjots, in so doing?

As I mentioned, there's no import facility. So, exporting the old notes as text only helps you copy and paste it into newly created books. I had to copy-paste my old books into the new kjots.

The new kjots needs to have a notes resource set up. When you do, you specify where the data is stored. The convention seems to be to store everything in ~/.local/share/. So, I designated ~/.local/share/notes as the directory to store stuff in.

Within that directory, each book you create seems to be added as a maildir directory (with the cur, tmp and new subdirectories). I'm not entirely literate on maildir, but that's basically what seems to be going on here.

I would just like to thank you for your suggest: I did as you wrote and now it's ok.
It would take some more time to me in order to understand the maildir folders and the new akonadi folders hierarchy, but I think I'm in the good direction
