After upgrading to kmail2, there is no communication with the addressbook anymore. Completion only contains recent addresses, while my addressbook appears to work fine, kmail does not offer any contacts or groups from in there for completion.

I can get contacts by activating the "choose" function, though, but that shouldn't be nessecary?

Groups are not functional, trying to send to a group "testgroup" results in a mail with "To: testgroup@myhost".

To see your address book contacts in KMail you need to add it as a KDE resource.

To do this go to System Settings...Personal Information.

Make sure 'Contacts' is selected and click 'Add...'

I'm assuming your are using Akonadi so choose 'Akonadi Address Books'.

However if your address book is in a VCard file try adding the Folder or File resource.

NickElliott: Thanks for the answer, but all that is correctly configured - that is why I am asking.

Ok, I wasn't sure if you had completed these steps as it is not obvious (it took me months to work it out!).

I can't offer any other help. The only thing I can say is based on this and the issues you have mentioned in your other posts it seems to me that something went very wrong when you migrated to KMail2.

I'm not sure where you go from here. Do you still have a backup of your files from before the migration because if I were you I'd be inclined to start again?

All my old mail appears to be safely kept in ~/Mail. I am yet to figure out where kmail2 puts new mail. But considering the horror the experience were, I do not like that thought. Currently, it seems that my main folder is named "Local folders" instead of "Kmail-folders", and I have no trash folder for some reason. And there is the "where is my mail" problem. I'd prefer to keep what I have, since the indexing and stuff seems to take up my system for many, many hours.

All my filters were **** by the migration, because they were not updated to the new folder names. I have them fixed by now.

But still, maybe you are right.

I do not know how to do that, though. Just remove the mail related akonadi resources?

I too cannot get the addressbook to work ... at all.

I created a new personal contacts addresbook and then
went to import from the old vcf file. 43 contacts were imported
but nothing shows up in kaddressbook.

I can see a bunch of vcf files in ~/.local/share/contacts,
but nothing in kaddressbook.

Also, I cannot add a new contact. That is, it does not show
up in kaddressbook. The vcf file is created however.

Really annoying .. . but I'm used to it :(

@wes33 Make sure the resource you created is active in the Personal Information/KDE Resources section of system settings. Here, kaddressbook works fine, but kmail does not communicate with it.

One source of confusion is that when adding an addressbook resource you have to specify which kind of resource it is to be. Read the descriptions carefully. The Folder resource adds a folder such as ~/.local/share/contacts, where each contact is a separate file. The File resource is a single file with lots of addresses concatenated, such as std.vcf, the old addressbook. Personal Contacts, in my addressbook was set as a Folder resource, pointing to ~/.local/share/contacts. You can, if you wish, also have a File resource (give it a different name) pointing to ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf.

My resources were there since forever. I can add addressees using the ... button on the composer, but autocompletion is broken. Surely I should not need to remake my resources because I update KDE??

Maybe a silly question, but did you make sure your address book is activated? See if there's a check mark in the left column.
