I just updated to KDE 4.7 using the openSuSE repositories (running openSuSE 11.4). My mail appears to have migrated successfully with the exception of saved folders I had created under the std inbox structure. In those folders I would move things such as registrations, travel confirmations, etc.
I have 4 accounts set up directory under Inbox as well to received mail from the various accounts I have. Those all appear intact. Sent Mail is empty as well as the Saved Message Folders I had created under PIM 1 as I mentioned above. I looked in ~/MAIL and everything in there appears now to be empty. Anyway to get any of this stuff back? Thanks for any thoughts. |

Guess it's lost then. Knew I should not have upgraded it.

I have had lots of problems with kmail2, but it never deleted anything. Look in your mail folder with dolphin, and hidden files on.
I downgraded and now run kdepim 4.4, so I have a working mail setup with all my mail visible, but outdated applications. |

I had tried looking for hidden files and directories as well. Everything appears empty and those folders do not even appear anywhere that I can find. What's really weird is it did not do it to all of them, only the most important ones I really needed to keep (of course ) |

Can you please check the configuration of Akonadi? Open KMail > Settings > Configure KMail > Accounts > Incoming. Select "Local Folders" (or whichever one is used for storing your email), then Modify. This will match the name of the folder which contains all your other folders in KMail's folder pane.
The path shown in the modify dialog will be where your email is stored. Do NOT change that directory path (it will not be moved, your access to your email will be lost). If you browse there in Dolphin, your email should be stored there.

Ok, I got list of local directories being displayed in Kontact, but the content is not visible although stored in those directories (I can find them in ~/Mail/.inbox.directory). How can I make them visible in Kontact? Does it take as so many actions in KMail2 half of eon?

I went through the migration - a real desaster. This finally helped me to successfully fix the problem manually and transfer the data:
https://wiki.kubuntu.org/OneiricOcelot/ ... ntu/Kmail2 It doesn't mean that I have no problems anymore and it doesn't mean I will not soon seriously look for an alternative as I am not convinced anymore that the Kmail-people will ever be able to fix all the galore of bugs. I also fail entirely to understand why one can release such an Alpha-status software. uhh: and after the transfer it is necessary to "update folders" to make emails visible Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit with Kontact/Kmail2 |

Thanks for the information. Only wish I had known it before blindly updating from the distribution repository with no warnings that KMail would be updated to KMail2. At this point I'm not screwing around with it anymore, I'm living with it for the time being. I agree, it should never have been released in the state it's in. I'm considering moving the Thunderbird permanently as I am not confident I'm getting all my email at this point. |

I'm yet another disillusioned user. As I've voiced here...
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=98067&hilit=kmail Let's hope somebody's listening as there's an over-abundance of KMail related posts to this forum.
