Here is a succinct step by step guide on how to accomplish disabling Akonadi in 4.7 http://mschlander.wordpress.com/2011/08 ... de-sc-4-7/ - found on Planet openSUSE and written by Martin Schlander[/i]

caveats:
- have not tried it
- this is for 4.7, in future versions it [may|may not] work
- Kontact/KMail/KOrganizer, Konversation and Kopete require Akonadi

Be aware too that some plasmoids use Akonadi and will be broken if you disable it. That includes the taskbar clock.

Clarification: Akonadi is still installed and will run if an app that requires it is started so "disable" is a bit of a misnomer, it's more of a how to to to keep it from starting up

note: the clock plasmoids/widgets will start Akonadi unless "display events" is unchecked
