Backup/move contact groups

Sun Aug 21, 2011 3:55 pm
I want to move my contact groups to some other machines, they are here:/home/xxx/.local/share/contacts/Listor and have names like file:///home/xxx/.local/share/contacts/Listor/{c1e6f25e-9cfe-4ccb-b638-0875a2518857}.ctg

But in the same directory there is a file "WARNING_README.txt" with this content: "Important Warning!!! Don't create or copy vCards inside this folder manually, they are managed by the Akonadi framework!"

The export option in KAddressBook saves the contacts but not the contact groups.

What am I to do?
TIA - Virstad

I would suggest using the Akonadi Backup functionality here, then restore that on the other machine.

Thanks for your suggestion. I created a backup with akonaditray. I checked the backup and in the directory "akonadiconfig" of the backup I found several pathes and names which are not the same as on the other machines, of course. Let's say: a path on the original machine is /home/virstad and on another /home/stad. I am afraid that using the backup would override path, account names and a lot more on a different machine.

In db/database.sql I found a lot of information about i.e. folders in KMail2 but nothing about my contact groups.
The other machines have different folders. I do not want to hazard with the restore button to get a new structure on the other machines.

The only thing I want to do is to move my contact groups. I bet it is more safe to create them on each machine manually after an import of the contacts, for the present.;-)

Cheers - Virstad
