kubuntu Natty 64bit, KDE 4.6.2, Kmail 1.13.6

I prefer kmail for my email client and Konqueror as my default browser. I have configured my OS to those choices. Nonetheless, when I open an email in Kmail, which provides a link to a website, the following error message appears: Could not find the program 'Konqueror'.

I have searched all configuration possibilities for Kmail that I can think of and still the only way I can link to a website is to open a browser and copy the link from the email to the browser. TIA for any help!

Try "which konqueror" which should return the full path to the app. Then use the full path in the Default Applications section of System Settings.

Dear annew,

[color=#BF0000]I am not sure I followed your instructions accurately, however, I did correct the problem and want to explain for the benefit of anyone with a similar problem.

Using your suggestion of modifying the full path in Default Applications of System Settings, I noticed that System Settings>Workspace Appearance and Behavior>Default Applications>Web Browser> Default Component>*in the following browser:I previously typed in konqueror with a capital K. When I changed the spelling from Konqueror to konqueror, the problem was resolved. Thanks for the help.

Glad you got it sorted. Yes, if you are calling an application directly like that you need the exact name. In most cases this will be all lowercase, though there are a few exceptions

I have, since this post, installed Kubuntu 11.10. I cannot get Kmail to work at all. When I attempt to open the application, an error window appears that says, "KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now. The error was: Failed to fetch the resource collection."

Apparently this is a common bug. I am unable to understand and apply the instructions for repair. I expect I will have to wait till the repair comes in an update. I think it has something to do with Akonadi. In any event, if I click on the OK of the error message, the application closes abruptly, so there are no in-application configuration options to attempt repair.

Of all the email applications I have used, I prefer KMail to all others. I really miss it and wish I were smarter or someone could walk me through the repair process assuming no intellect on my part at all. Baby steps. In any event you all are so much appreciated. Thanks for any help you may wish to offer.

When you say 'which konqueror', is there a package named 'Which Konqueror', or what do you mean by 'try which konqueror'? Or do you mean, under Default Settings in System Settings, that I should write 'which konqueror' where I have now entered 'konqueror' as my default browser? I am sorry to be so dense.

The solution for this problem is in Kmenu>Applications>System>System Settings>Default Applications>/Web Browser> Open http and https URLs>In the following browser: (type in konqueror using the lower-case 'k' instead of Konqueror.)
