Hi,
I think that Kontact/Akonadi deleted 5GB off my hard drive, and I would like to find out if that is true. The backstory: I'm using Opensuse 11.4 with both Gnome (2.32.1) and KDE (4.6.0) installed. I have been considering changing over from Evolution to Kontact (4.4.10), and have been toying around with the latter to see if it does the things I want it to do. The following happened in a Gnome session. I am finding getting straight on how the addressbook and calendars work quite difficult. In particular the difference between the different kinds of addressbook, which is better for which purpose, which integrates better with the other Kontact components (some show up the birthdays in Calendar, but distribution lists are not available in Kmail; some the reverse...). There's very little documentation out there so it's been trial and error. One thing I have found is that not much actually gets deleted, when one deletes an addressbook or calendar. I create an addressbook, a couple of entries in it, delete it (in kontact), and later if I create another addressbook those old entries show up! Or I import a vCard file to an addressbook, see what I can do with it, delete the addressbook, and again later I create another and the entries from the vCard show up (this seems to have to do with whether the vCard was imported to the standard addressbook), etc. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I found it hard to keep track of all the various addressbooks and calendars I had created and then only "half" deleted, so I decided to delete all the calendars and akonadi resources related to calendars and addressbooks (i.e. .vcf and akonadi_ical_resource_* files), in particular from the following directories: /home/.config/akonadi /home/.kde4/share/apps/kabc /home/.kde4/share/apps/korganizer /home/.kde4/share/apps/ /home/.kde4/share/config/ /home/.kde4/share/config/kresources/calendar/ /home/.kde4/share/config/kresources/contact/ I subsequently put the computer to sleep, and when it resumed I found that two directories from my home directory were gone. In one of them (in a sub-directory actually) I had put some calendars which I had imported into Kontact, but the other had nothing to do with any information Kontact might use. I have back-ups so nothing is lost. I have also checked the hard disk to make sure it is not failing. I would like to find out what happened if I can. The logs in the Log Viewer were not very illuminating (not that I really know what to look for). Any pointers anyone can offer as to where to look and what to look for would be greatly appreciated. |
