Hello,
I have problem running KMail after I've upgraded to the newest Kubuntu (and hence KMail2). I wanted to create a new bug report, but maybe KDE forum is better place for this. Version: KDE 4.7.1 OS: Kubuntu 11.10 After starting KMail gets always killed with the message: "Agent instance creation timed out.". I was not able to Google any solution to this problem. It might be connected with KMail migration. I would be glad for any explanation or workaround for this problem. Stdout from running KMail:
This is really bothering me because it is forcing me to switch to another client... I don't want that, I want my KMail ![]() |

From the errors what I can see is that Nepomuk is turned off. Can you turn it on (without enabling desktop search) from systemsettings (Desktop Search > Enable semantic desktop) and see whether kmail goes further on?

I ran into numerous problems with moving from kmail to kmail2 after i did a dist-upgrade with Ubuntu to oneiric. the migration failed, the nepomuk config suggestions on other pages did nothing to help, then i had the akonadi run-around and i was even contemplating web mail or thunderbird maybe even evolution but the mail importing from kmail directories using python and perl scripts off the net were'nt working
![]() what did i do then? created a new UNIX user, set kmail account up from scratch, send and getmail working then i did sudo mv /home/olduser/.kde/share/apps/kmail to /home/newuser and then ran kmail import this not only fixed my kmail but other small things like akonadi, nepomuk and desktop settings i did not manage to move my filter rules, buts thats a small price to pay and i will just recreate them as i go. lastly my address book: the directory /home/newuser/.local/share/contacts did not exist i created it then $ sudo mv /home/olduser/.local/share/contacts* /home/newuser/.local/share/contacts note: when using sudo to move files from old user to newuser you need to chown the files to the new user then in kmail/kontact i went to my addresses, and hit the F5 to refrsesh the folder and wammo all my contacts where there. thanks to all the developers for their ongoing work, well done! PS: oneiric and kde 4.7.1 works much better than older versions with a laptop and an external monitor connected to it, the splash screen is clean, the desktop effects all work, no snow or flaking, the workspace behaviour and screen edges are better. |
