Kmail has been my mail client for a good few years now. However, with the recent upgrades I've had problems.

I was using Kmail 1 on Ubuntu and have upgraded to 11.04. This combination was done to get me around a different Kmail bug. Everything was running well.

I decided to give xfce a try and, long story short, I upgraded to 11.10.

Then I faced Kmail 2 and had import problems.

After biting the bullet, I downloaded xubuntu 11.10 and have successfully installed that, along with importing the folders from Kmail 1 and re-working all the filters.

However, I am left with an awkward problem.

Every time I synch, previous mails keep returning to the inbox and get filtered.

The mails have been deleted from the server, as per spec, so I'm not sure where these could be coming from. Some posts I've read suggested deleting the ~/.local/share/akondai folder, but when I did that, my e-mails completely vanished, so I hoiked it out of the trash can in double quick time.

I seem to be stuck in this position with no way of finding these messages; they must be stuck in some folder somewhere. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Some more information is that this "seems" to be down to a rule which moves mail to another folder.

There are loads of filter rules, most of which seem to be running fine. This one rule is not working right, though.

I've tried deleting it and recreating it, but no joy. Without the filter, it seems to be fine and other filters are doing their job.

Deleting and re-creating the filter isn't working.

The filter is a "catch all" filter that is at the bottom of the list and says, if mail comes in which is to a specific mail address, then move it to a folder and stop processing.

Kmail version is 4.7.2 - I haven't reported a bug yet because I don't think I've got an adequate handle on what could be causing this. It might have been the imported kmail2 folders, or anything.

I think I might have got a handle on it.

If a mail is received and is moved to a folder which is under "Local Folders" but not under "inbox" then that works fine.

If a mail is received and is moved to a folder which is somewhere under the "inbox" structure then it seems to continue to treat it as a new mail and continues to process it whenever the mail is checked.

If anyone has any input on this, I'd be grateful.

Nope. nearly there, but no cigar.

It seems like I might have to re-create the folders that were positioned under the "inbox." There seems to be some form of property stuck to them. Simply moving them out from under the inbox structure didn't solve it.
