I am running openSUSE 11.4 X64 and using the latest versions of 4.7.3 from the openSUSE Upstream repository.

Once I did the update from 4.7.2 to 4.7.3 Kontact/KMail starting acting differently. I receive mail as normal to all my mailboxes and if I hover over a message in the summary window I get an instant Preview Bubble showing the message. However, if I attempt to open the message or select it to display in the reading pane, the reading pane shows the message Retrieving Folder Contents for a minimum of 4 minutes before actually showing the message. The same occurs if I try to move any to Trash.

If I select a different mailbox to display, the summary comes up almost immediate but any attempt to actually display any message in full shows the same behavior, at least 4 minutes before it displays or completes a move to trash.

KMail is basically unusable at the moment and I'm at a loss as to what to do to correct.

The rest of KDE is running smoothly and stable. Could the Akonadi index be busted or corrupt somehow? Is there a way to force it to rebuild the Mail if that is a possibility?

Any ideas welcome. Thanks in advance.

Are you using MySQL as a backend? I use openSUSE 12.1 with KDE 4.7.3, and the mysql backend won't load any message contents at all (that I have noticed).

If you do use MySQL, try PostgreSQL. I don't have this problem with PostgreSQL. The easiest way to do this (if you have postgresql and the qt4 bindings installed) is to open the Akonadi configuration (just tyle akonadi in the search box in KMenu and see what it finds) and in the drop down box up to, select PostgreSQL.

Though do beware before you upgrade to 12.1 because that uses a newer version of PostgreSQL that is incompatible, so you'll have to export your database before you upgrade, start with a fresh akonadi and then import your data.
