korganizer - 2 questions

Wed Nov 16, 2011 4:12 pm
Forgive my simple question. I recently started using this over thunderbird. Anyway:

1: I don't see any way to CREATE a new local calendar. I saw lots of options for importing, but from wqhat I could tell they all assume the calendar already exists somewhere. The only way i was able to create one was to navigate to the default calendar in dolphin, duplicate the file, and change the name. Am I missing something obvious here? (this does happen.)

2. Using Kontact for the first time, i like the idea of journal entries. however, i do not want the journals to be visible on the calendar. Is there a way to hide them from the calendar, yet still see them on the journal page of kontact? As a work around, i created a separate calendar (see question 1). However, this forces me to toggle between the 2 calendars just to view the journal.

Thanks. Any help is appreciated.

You should add a resource for your calendar. Start at...
"System Settings -> Personal Information -> Add". That should get you started.

Thank you for the response. This, however, appears to be the same options as I found in the other places. Yes, there is a way to "add" a calendar. But once you get into the setup dialogue, it asks you to either find the existing file to point it to, or tell it the server to download it from.

This has given me some more stuff to poke around in, however, as I have discovered that I have about 8 "contacts" templates enabled. (sheesh).

EDIT: Looking in this area also made me realize that the calendars that I created are not being loaded correctly by the akonadi agent at startup. They work just fine, but I get the following message "Initialization based on stored configuration failed." If I click on modify, the correct path is there. Oddly, clicking either "ok" or "cancel" makes the error go away and I get the "ready" status. Pretty annoying. I guess I now have three questions: How do you get rid of the error messages?

Okay, in the Korganizer preferences, I was able to go to View / month view. There is a checkbox for journal entries being visible in month view (odd that it is only present in month view, but that is the view I use, so whatever).

SO.. one of my questions is answered. I still find it curious that there is no obvious way to CREATE a new calendar file.
