After a clean Kubuntu 11.1 install when I start Kmail I get this message:

KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now.
The error was:
Failed to fetch the resource collection

I removed/uninstalled Kmail but after installation I still get this error.

What do I do?

I formatted and installed a new Kubuntu 11.1 and of course that fixed it.

Perhaps when starting Kmail the first time, when being asked for my identity for an Imap process, I hit either hit the cancel "X" or restarted the system. I use POP3 and did not want Imap.

For POP3 I went to preferences and set up my account thereby making the selection of Pop3.

I think Kamil should direct one to preferences rather than use the the current method.
