Hi,
I have (kind of) successfully migrated from old Kmail directly to Kmail 4.7.4. Unfortunately I can not access new mails since Kmail is hanging on synchronisation all the time. It happens in the same folder, when I cancel, cancelling hangs. I need to restart in order to start again. But then Kmail hangs on the same folder. I assume it might be a message it wont get a long with. Any idea how to solve it, may be find the message it is hanging on? Markum EDIT: It's a cached IMAP account.

Is there any particular characteristic about this folder, like it having a large number of emails in it which could also be the issue?

That depends on what counts as a large number. Its about 4000. The other thing is that the percentage point of hanging is going slightly down after each hanging from initial 97% now to 19%. The mails have all already been downloaded. Markum

Can you leave it running for a while? Sometimes part of the messages is downloaded after getting the main bits.

I can leave it running for a day, no change at all. The funny thing is that I had a testing version on Oneric running on another system in September which had many problems, but at least accessing emails kind of worked. Now it is much worse. I even tried with a clean Kmail. The issue is the same.

the same here. After an automatic update from 4.7.2 to 4.7.3 the bloody thing just hangs and no access to emails anymore. Kmail is really becoming a pain in the.. and I wonder why such a broken software is released into the wild. Unacceptable.

Can those affected by this please check these two bugs?

Those bugs don't seem to have something to do with the problem. But I tried something else. I deleted/ renamed the Kmail2 and some Akonadi-related configs and started fresh. Instead of Offline-IMAP, I choose normal IMAP. Then my system got hammered with uncounted "Unbekannter Fehler. (Unable to append item flags.)". After it stopped, I see the folder structure, but I do not see any mails. Markum

I started akonadi manually with akonadictl manually and received many messages
"Error during adding a record to table "PimItemFlagRelation" "Duplicate entry '121272-7' for key 'PRIMARY' QMYSQL3: Unable to execute statement" I found a bug related to this https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=274799 Seams like a database corruption. Any idea how to delete the database without getting rid of the adressebook in Akonadi at the same time?

Every kubuntu update 11.04 -> 11.10 has been a nightmare for kmail. The first PC is now okay and I thought the 2nd was also, but this morning the mail hangs as well:
In some folders I can see the messages, while in others it hangs without showing anything, and canceling hangs as well. Kmail2 is one of the worse piece of software I've had the displeasure to use. The problem is that I don't know any other mail reader that can import a kmail store... |

@dargaud: Your issue looks like it might be Nepomuk related.
@markum: The database is only a cache, so it can be removed without problems. Please move ~/.local/share/akonadi/ elsewhere without Akonadi running.

surprise surprise. After 4 days of having lost the ability to read any emails, the "synchronising .. please wait" screen suddenly vanished and I could read my emails again.
I have ca 125 MB in my Inbox and altogether ca 10 GB of data. I have no clue why it works again, and stopped fiddling around either. So it may just need 4 days to syncronize?? Whatever: Kmail has really become a pain in.. Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit with Kontact 4.7.3 |

I have to correct my statement. Kmail worked for a while but now I am back to having no access to emails anymore. This will surely be the final nail to find a new home for my emails.
Again, it is "retrieving folder contents.. please wait" forever? I am now really furious about how the Kmail developers treat/disrespect users and believe this is the main problem for this now unusable software, part of the explanation is here: http://dilfridge.blogspot.com/2011/09/w ... tions.html It is outrageous to throw such a broken piece of software at users. I sadly have to agree with this verdict: AVOID AT ALL COST: http://www.techradar.com/news/software/ ... ?artc_pg=2 |

I fully agree: IMAP is a FAIL. Imports from Kmail1 are a FAIL. Search is a FAIL (there's not even the option of which folder to search anymore). Those perpetual "wait while folder is loading" are a FAIL.
The main question now is "how do I migrate my mail store to something else" ? Anything else... |
