Hi, i tried kmail 2 2-3 times in different occasions. kde 4.8 rc1 (or beta 2) beeing the last one. Everytime it didn't work and migrating my old mails was impossible. (not only talking about mine, i had to fix 2 computers of friends i only recently convinced that kde was really good).
I don't mind skipping a few more releases of kde with my main computer. So i would like to have a honest opinion, is kmail2 ready yet? I can't afford risking to end up with a broken application for something as crucial as my mails. Thanks already, i hope i can use kmail 2 soon! |

For me it works OK, although I migrated my stuff a long time ago (think 4.6) on one computer and on the rest I set up from scratch (I use IMAP so that's not a big deal). The performance has imprved dramatically from 4.7 and 4.6, in fact I can use it normally even on the EeePC 900 (Celeron 900 ULV CPU, for the record) I'm typing this with.
Filters, I don't know as I moved to sieve so it's the server that does the filtering for me.

The migration tool seemed to work, when I switched to Kmail2, but it didn't. That said, importing the messages worked fine. Day to day there are no issues for me.
I have always liked the "look and feel" of Kmail (coming from using Pegasus Mail in Windows). I use Evolution on my work PC because the Exchange Connector works better and easier than Davmail. Like everyone, little issues crop up from time to time, but nothing that makes me hate Kmail. The one thing that does bother me is the inability to (easily) export messages. If I kept a wish list, this would be at the top.

Thanks for your answer, but after seeing multiple threads now that kmail 2 deletes mails or at least mail bodies, even on the server, i'm going to wait until kde 4.9 for the migration. thanks anyway.

I took the risk and migrated my girlfriends computer. It was a big mistake. Migration worked not at all and i'm now at 6+hours migrating. I have to resolve one obscure error after another etc. Going to wait until kde 4.9 for my own computer, i simply can't afford investing so much time to migrate from one kmail version to another.
