Kntact 4.7

Mon Feb 06, 2012 5:22 pm
Perhaps someone can answer this:

I am currently running PCLinuxOS which is on the Linux 2.6.33.7 kernel and KDE vs 4.6.5. There is a bug in Kontact PIM in which the Contacts list does not arrange the contact list list correctly. The bug has been fixed in KDE 4.7. My distribution has not upgraded yet to the latest versions yet. I tried a Live DVD of Netrunner Linux OS which has KDE 4.7.4 and kernel version 3.0 ..... From the Live DVD I went into Kontact and set up a new address book and imported my contacts. The import went fine and the list of contacts arranged alphabetically as listed ( Good ). When I click on a contact the info appears on the right panel but it also includes two large bar code scan images which I don't know why they are there. Is this just a fluke because I am running Kontact from a live DVD or is there some reason for these two bar code images. I tried editing the contacts to see if there was something new added but could not find anything that correlated to it. Does anyone know of why this is happening ? Will this go away if I install the Netrunner Linux on my HDD along with PCLOS and Windows ? Or is this just because I am running the application from a Live DVD ? How do I get rid of those images ?

Thanks for any answers or help.

The two barcode images are likely QR codes, for easy use by devices such as Android phones. This comes down to the different options decided by distributions when building Kontact.

Unfortunately I cannot tell for sure if they are QR codes without a screenshot (you should be able to test if you have a compatible device, or perform a Google Image search to see what one looks like)

The 4.7 new-style Kontact that came with Fedora did display QR codes. Just to check, I offered one to my phone, and sure enough that contact was immediately and completely visible on my phone. Quite useful. I don't think they can be switched off in 4.7, though there was some talk of it being optional in 4.8. I don't know whether the change was made, though.

Thanks for the information annew. Greatly appreciated.
Version 4.7 finally fixes the bug that does not sort the listed contacts correctly. Now have to wait until vs 4.8 in hopes they eliminate those code images that are displayed with each contact.

Hello KDE developers " don't like those code images. please make them optional to display " thank you very much.

ps: those images are from LiveDVD of Netrunner 4.1 Linux. PCLOS has not updated KDE yet to 4.7.
