HELP!!!!!!!! upgrade from 4.6 to 4.7

Sat Feb 11, 2012 12:02 am
I upgraded my system today from 4.6 to 4.7.4. I was able to import all of my email after hours of digging around the file system to find the corect directory.

Now I want to import all of my address books and can NOT find the darn things. I looked in the KABC directory in the default stdvcf directory as other posters have mentioned but the import tool does NOT see any of the files!

Am I looking in the right directory for these files and what type of file should I be importing? I've been trying the Vcard option but to no avail it fails everytime. When I left the wizard import all my mail it said it succeded but when I opend up Kontact I was presented with a blank template slate of the normal email structure devoid of all of my mail. Once again the developers have failed in their upgrade attemps! Dpon't they test this stuff?

Every time I upgradeI have to deal with this happening and backup the entire system because I have learned that there is a huge disconnect in what the developers see and what actually happens in the real world.

I really need to get my address books back, so where do I find them and how do I get Kaddressbook to import the files? >:(

Jakebpg read thread "Save me from kmail2". You can try the VM solution if everyting else fails.

Dan, that's not an option. All I need to have my full working kmail are my address books. Installing an entire OS is NOT very practical in my opinion as you have done.
I'm running F16 also and kmail is working perfectly, all I need to do is find where the heck my address books are and import them!

Yes I'm NOT happy with the developers right now. They really need to do more testing and THAT TESTING MUST BE DONE ON NON DEVELOPMENT MACHINES!

I use to be a developer and testing updates and new software on a development machine is akin peeing in the wind since it will always work because of develpment files that are local to the machine!

Please run the following command - it should find all *.vcf files Kontact used.
Code: Select all
find ~/.kde*/ | grep -i vcf

KDE Sysadmin
