I wonder if I can switch from thunderbird to KMail. But I have a lot of problems with it:

1) How can I remove "Local Folders"? I don't need it.
2) Why I've got silly names like "IMAP account 4" displayed at the left part of GUI, even if I changed it to something more intuitive? It is related to creating accounts using account wizard.
3) And why I cannot set some accounts placed in uncommon servers (for example my university account)? I've provide KMail with exactly the same data, which I use in thunderbird. I can see it in settings->configure kmail->accounts as ready. But I don't have them on the left.

Thanks for any help.

Hi
I'm the new guy on the block here, but I would ask a question for other people to read so that they can help you.

As to "removing local folders" one can "untick" it and it will be ignored. However, if one wants to actually "remove" it then one will have to go to the "preferences" section of the menu and to Akonadi resources, or if one does not have that then one might install Akonaditray, and one can get to Akonadi from that. In any case, just select the "local folders" symbol and then click delete. It can always be added back later if desired.

HOWEVER...some distros are set up so that one cannot remove "local folders". And a reason for that is that sometimes moving things around in other modules defaults to the "local folder".

Also, todos can be defaulted to the local folder, so that one does not see them when syncing the regular calendar to an external calendar app like Google apps.

As to the next:

I assume that you have Akonadi set up since you have IMAP account 4 in the post. Sometimes Akonadi "loses" an e-mail address or password when trying to import stuff, like calendars or a huge volume of stuff, especially if the calendars have a lot of "recurring events" in them and such.

One then has to re-enter the e-mail addy and password.

Also, if Akonadi is "being swamped" by a lot of stuff to import it can just shut down. It will, in Akonadi resources" be seen as "linking... 100%" but actually it is stalled because of the flow of material and timing out. One should delete the resource and then add it back and re-enter the e-mail addy and password, it will sync and the button will turn green.

Anything that is already onboard will still be there and the sync will just resume, or at least that is what happened to me when I was importing a really big bunch of e-mails one time. It took a couple of tries, but finally finished.

Also, if one has multiple accounts in the IMAP server one has to either move the desired account "up" or mark it as "default". Have you done that?

Since you have the number 4, it would indicate that you have made 4 attempts to set up the IMAP account, have any of the other attempts been successful?

It takes quite a while to move stuff into the accounts, and sometimes if the system is slow it can "time out" or just balk. If one watches the importing in the Akonadi part of it one will see which folders are being filled etc.

So....hang tight, I'm sure that someone more knowledgeable than I will be along shortly, but more information would help them.

The Local Folder is always required for Akonadi to be operable, as it contains the Outbox among other folders, which is crucial for email sending to be able to function.
