Hello,
I am B.Tech First year student of Dhirubhai ambani institute of information and communication technology.
I would really like to do internship in GSoC on this project :)
This is the project which was on my mind since long time. I also have been working on OpenCV from last few months and would like to work on activating or deactivating a microphone / acoustic model in Simon based on the presence of a user by detecting face.

Cheers,
Yash Shah

Hi!

I'm Peter and I'd mentor the project. Thanks for taking an interest!

I don't know if you're familiar with Qt / KDE but if not, I suggest to read a couple of tutorials and follow some guides to learn the basics before the student application period begins.

If you want, I can also review drafts of your project proposal. Just send me a pm here or mail to grasch ate simon-listens dot org.

Best regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,
I am a 3rd year student at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
I would also like to take this as my GSoC project.
I am pretty acquainted with openCV as I had developed an application for mobile which used openCV libraries. I have also sound knowledge in Qt and C++
and I have done a bug fix for the project kmplot for kde-edu.
Can you please tell me where should I start?

Thanks

Hi Rahul,

if you haven't done so already, I'd suggest to set up a development environment for Simon. I'd recommend to get it working for yourself (the manual can help you with this) and then to start to dig through the code and play with the current context system.

This should give you a much better overview of what exists and what needs to be implemented than anything I could write here.

Again, if you want, I can also review your drafts of the project proposal. Just send me a pm here or mail to grasch ate simon-listens dot org and I'll take a look.

Best regards,
Peter

Hi,
I also would like to get that job, but in my opinion Simon should be integrated with libface library, which already has face detection. That feature is used by Digikam and works very well. The missing feature is the face recognition, but it is to be done within the project of face recognition for Digikam. I as GSoC student would implement the libface/libkface support in the application and collaborating with a student working on face recognition for Digikam would implement that feature also in Simon.

Maybe some words about me: I am a 4th year Automatics and Robotics student at AGH Cracow in Poland on specialization of Neurcybernetics. I am intrested in machine learning and planing to develop myself towards the computer vision.
I have lastly done a project of Visual Navigation, which is a localisation and path finding in-building navigation written using ARToolkit library. I can also say that Qt is my strong side. I have made several projects utilizing it in my university tasks as well as private purposes.

Sounds like a good idea, actually, and I like the collaboration aspects.

Speaking of which, I'd like to continue the project discussion on kde-accessibility@kde.org in order for other applicants to weigh in as well.

Let's turn this into a collaborative effort!

Best regards,
Peter
