I'm not sure ctrl+alt+del has ever been connected to the logout screen, I read somewhere it was supposed to be, anyway, mine isn't currently. I can't find the logout screen using KMenuEdit to do a simple shortcut key (wild guess it might be there). What's the easiest / cleanest way of achieving what I want?
thanks. |

Systemsettings (or "Configure Desktop")->Shortcuts and Gestures->Global Shortcuts, choose KDE Session Management as component and change the shortcut for Logout.
And yes, this is set to Ctrl+Alt+Del by default. |

Got it, thanks wolfi323, simple when you know where to look. I might have to rethink some of those defaults now I've seen the options available.

Is there a secret to getting ctrl+alt+del+del (double delete) for a custom option? As soon as you hit ctrl+alt+del it wants to reassign immediately without letting you move forward for a double del option.

No. AFAIK KDE's shortcut system only supports simple shortcuts, not a combination of keypresses. But you get the logout dialog as saftey measure against an unintended trigger anyway (if not turned off in Systemsettings->Startup and Shutdown->Session Management). |
