I don't know i am fully right or not but i think TGZ is a compressed file format by Unix. TGZ files are TAR files which have been compressed with.GZIP. TAR files hold multiple archived files in one file, whose size is reduced when compressed with.GZIP. TGZ extension is a shorted form of the extension TAR.GZ. TGZ files are commonly used as install packages.
