Hello,
As far as kttsd 4.4.5 is concerned, I understand that kttsd no longer outputs to a text-to-speech system but to speech-dispatcher. Considering kttsd's ebuild under Gentoo's portage system, I see that, via appropriate use flags, one can still link kttsd with support for several text-to-speech engines. - Is this definitely useless or in the process of deprecation ? - Does this mean that there is some userland-runtime-way to make kttsd bypass speech-dispatcher and directly address the text-to-speach engines ? |

kttsd ( now Jovie ) can use either SpeechD ( Speech Dispatcher ) or OpenTTS ( Open Text To Speech ) in trunk. No idea what it can use in 4.5 though.

Thank you for answering bcooksley.
It appears nevertheless that I am totally incapable of setting up a working kttsd -> speech-dispacher -> espeack -> mbrola chain ![]() BTW, the handbook is... hmmm... not helpfull... ![]() Would there be some hidden indications somewhere ? EDIT : Hmmm... Could well be that the answer is with speech-dispatcher 0.7.1 ! I was fighting, and in vain, with the latest Gentoo-Stable 0.6.7 which spd-conf is a true nightmare ! ![]() |
