...the KDE version is still defaulting to 3.5.1.

Can someone help me understand what I must change to get the system to use the latest KDE 4.9 upgrade?

Kind regards, Marc

you have 3.5.1 installed?

at the kdm login screen -> menu -> session type -> KDE plasma

I'm using this from a virtual machine. I set up a VNC session and then use a VNC viewer to go straight into the desktop.

How would I change this from inside of the KDE session? I found the "Session Manager" under the KDE Components.

There is a Metacity (GNOME) window manager, but not a KDE Plasma.

Thanks, Marc

I have never set up a VNC session so I'm not gonna be much help

if you are in a KDE3 session and you want to be in a KDE4 then you need to log out the KDE3 and at the login screen (KDM) switch to KDE4. If for session types you only have MetaCity and KDE3 then I'd guess you don't have KDE4 installed

Can you please check if you have a "startkde" or a "startkde4" and if so - which version of KDE does each appear to belong to?
If it is the KDE 4 version, it will have mentions of kwrapper4, dbus, etc instead of dcop.
