Behavior change for text highlighting

Yesterday I upgraded kdevelop to 4.4.1 and noticed a couple changes. I assume these things are settings that I can reconfigure but I haven't had any luck finding where.

Previously if I highlighted some text and typed a bracket, quote, or double-quote it would simply surround the text with the completed brackets/quotes/etc... very very handy! Starting yesterday the result is to replace the text (auto-bracket continues to put a second bracket/quote/etc... but the text is gone.)

Also previously if I highlighted some text in a document it would auto colorize matching text everywhere else in the document... again, pretty handy.

Anyone have any ideas of how to reset those behaviors on 4.4.1?

Mine never had the "auto brackets" on by default, but I found it deviously useful when I found it.

Disclaimer: I'm not on 4.4.1 yet, I'm just hoping the options sit in the same place...

Settings->Configure Editor->Editing->General->Auto Brackets.

For highlighting the selected text, I use the following plugin:

Settings->Configure Editor->Extensions->Highlight Selection.

Unless I am mistaken, the Auto Brackets are no longer in Settings->Configure Editor->Editing->General->Auto Brackets and instead must be managed through an extension. I have, previously, tried each and the non-extension seemed to work best for me (specifically being able to select a word, type the opening bracket/quote and having the entire selected braketed/quoted.)
