Cannot debug C++ with KDevelop on OS X

Building C++ project works, running also works. But debugging shows a dialog:
The current launch configuration does not support the 'debug' mode. :(

Run->Configure Launches->Add New does not show the usual Debug option.
Anyone ran into this issue?

KDevelop Platform 1.7.0
Using KDE Development platform 4.13.3
Installed via MacPorts
OS X 10.9.5
