Fetching project from github.

Mon May 07, 2018 8:43 am
When I'm trying to fetch a project from github I get the error mesage:
You need to specify the source for your remote project

I have tried both loggin in with a github account, and searching for users and organizations. But no sources or repositories get listed.
I can see a personal access token gets made in security history on github.

I have tried opening Kdevelop in a termial. But it does not give any clues to why nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Morgenkaff,

Did you already resolve the issue?

I have the exactly the same issue. Github account and repository set up, selecting "Projects" -> "Fetch project" and in the dialogue that opens (Select Source), there is an issue "You need to specify the source for your remote project". I can log in to my Github account and I also see a personal access token gets made in security history on github.
I can enter https://github.com/username/repository.git and there is a short flash of "Waiting for response", but the buttons for proceed and finish are still greyed out.
Anyone who can help?
Thanks!

Hi,

if you select "github", you enter *only* the username into the source field. Or just select "git" and paste the URL like you did.

Best,
Sven

Thanks for your reply, Sven, but I'm afraid your solution does not work for me.

To recap what I'm doing: I'm using KDevelop version 5.2.1 (Do I have to install any updates/plugins etc.?)
Opening Project > Fetch Project I get this window:
https://nicolasfella.files.wordpress.com%2F2018%2F03%2Fkdevelop_1.png
In the upper box, next to Source, I choose GitHub. I leave the Directory as is.
Where it says "kde conn" in the example picture, I either enter my username (which contains "-") or the URL of my github project (https://github.com/username/projectname.git)
In both cases, I get a very briefly flashing "Waiting for response" in the large box above the Get button. Entering the username, I can click on the button tot the very right that says "Settings" (I just have the icon, not the text) and authorize my account, which works. I can also see that a token was created on the github webpage.
Doing this, the username is greyed out where I entered it, the big box is empty and below the Get button is an error message "You need to specify a valid or nonexistent directory to check out a project".
Any ideas? Do I need to set up my project in a certain way at github?
Thanks!

Hmm sorry, don't know -- for me it lists my projects when I enterr my user name. I can try with yours, if you like?

Otherwise, you can simply clone your project from the command line using "git clone", that does the same thing as this dialog anyways ;)

Hi scummos,

thanks for your support. I switched to PyCharm and everything works as intended. I'm really not sure what causes the issue.
I'm giving up. I tried uninstalling (apt-get purge and autoremove, deleted ~/.cache/kdevduchain and ~/.cache/kdevelop), but when I reinstalled kdevelop, it still had the same issue. Interestingly, starting kdevelop resulted in my projects being loaded, so I assume not all configs were deleted.
Any way I can be sure to have kdevelop removed completely?
