could you please help: is it possible to configure the code navigation plugin?
I'd like to use only it's cool tooltips, but to switch off highlighting of a variable
or a function all over the document.

There are some related settings in Configure KDevelop -> Language Support. Especially, under "Semantic code highlighting" you can probably disable most of what you dislike about it.
