kdevelop opens in hex

Mon Dec 06, 2021 4:30 pm
After fedora upgrade (32->34), when a html file is opened in kdevelop, it opens in hex view. Previously it opened in text view. Have tried numerous changes in both the kdevelop "config kdevelop" as well as KDE System Settings. Please advise on what is the config parameter that controls this. Thanks

This is controlled by Applications -> File Associations in System Settings. Look for text/html, and in the "Embedding" tab ensure that "Embedded Advanced Text Editor (katepart)" is above "Okteta Hex Viewer (oktetapart)".

If that's already the case, make sure no other file associations mistakenly match *.html, and/or that your HTML files don't have some unexpected suffix.

OK. Thanks for the lead. The problem was under html > application (not text) > x-extension-html there was a single entry (Okteta) and when Embedded advanced text editor (katepart) was added (above) the problem got fixed. Amazing how one can blow and hour or two on stuff like this.
I upgraded three computer (fedora 32->34) at the same time and this is the only one where this occurred. Thanks again
