hey ho,
since some weeks i have installed kde4.2.2 on my debian unstable system. i love the new kde4 design. it looks great. but i have some problems to get the right config options for a lot of things i have used often in kde3. my main problem is the new konsole. 1. which config option activate the drag and drop context-menu? normally here i can chose between some actions like cd.. run.. and so on. i use this feature all the time. mostly to drag a file from konqueror into console window to cd into this directory. 2. how can i configure kdevelop 3 to use the kde4 konsole in kdevelop 3 konsole tab? also very very very important for me. 3. how can i start the gnome networkmanager applet? the knetworkmanager is unable to manage network changes. he can connect only at manager start 1 time to one network. but he cannot switch between this networks. this is normally the main function for a networkmanger. if i deactivate my wlan and plug in a cable network he is unable to manage this. the old one works fine with the same backend and kernel. don't know whats wrong here. 4. how can i configure kmix to display a osd if i use my keyboard- mute, - volume+ and - volume - ) buttons? my english.... uahhh, but i am no native speaker. sorry . thx wolke

KDevelop3 cannot use the KDE 4 Konsole, because Qt3 and Qt4 are incompatible, therefore making KDE 3 and KDE 4 incompatible.
Assuming you have assigned the relevant keys to KMix you should get a OSD automatically on KDE 4.2+. To set keys: KMix > Settings > Configure Shortcuts. Set "Mute", "Increase Volume" and "Decrease Volume" with the appropriate keys on the "Global" column. You can autostart the GNOME network manager by dragging and dropping its shortcut to the $(kde4-config --localprefix)/Autostart folder.

really, is there no workaround possible? because kdevelop4 is not usable for work. so i need kdevelop3. and kdevelop without a console is really bad!! how develop the kde4 developer... with eclipse? >Assuming you have assigned the relevant keys to KMix you should get a OSD automatically on KDE 4.2+. To set keys: KMix > Settings > Configure Shortcuts. Set >"Mute", "Increase Volume" and "Decrease Volume" with the appropriate keys on the "Global" column. hmm, i use kde4.2.2 and i have configure my shortcuts like you say. also i use xmodmap to configure my extra keys (thinkpad r61). this works all fine. but no osd. is there a extra package (debian) to install. >You can autostart the GNOME network manager by dragging and dropping its >shortcut to the $(kde4-config --localprefix)/Autostart folder. hmm, i can not start the applet manually. and a autostart wont work too. if i start gnome the the applet works fine. if i try to start the applet in kde4 i get this error message: wolke@rt-ente:~$ nm-applet ** (nm-applet:6691): WARNING **: applet_dbus_manager_start_service(): Could not acquire the NetworkManagerUserSettings service as it is already taken. Return: 3 as i say the settings are already taken in gnome. and it works there. also i don't understand why kwin will do all 3d desktop effects. but the usability is complete different to compiz or compiz fusion. thats really bad. all my old shortcuts (default compiz) wont work in kwin + 3d fx. also if you switch to gnome you have to use compiz with the same old settings. so you have to learn 2 shortcut sets to control your window manager. really bad. imo, this is not the right way. think, i switch back to kde3. eyecandy is really nice, but no, or complete different workflow is a bit problematic for people who use kde3 for years.

You need to install the KDE 3 version of Konsole to use it in KDevelop from KDE 3.
To be able to use the GNOME network manager you need to remove the Network Management plasmoid if you are using it and disable the "Network Management" in System Settings > Advanced > Services Manager. Can you post a screenshot of your KMix shortcuts configuration? It should work. KWin simply chose different shortcuts to Compiz. I believe it is possible to either use Compiz under KDE 4 ( Known to cause other problems however, System Settings > Default Applications > Window Manager ) or change KWin's shortcuts.
