Install two different versions of Kdevelop

Anyone knows if it's possible to have two different versions of Kdevelop installed, i.e. the repo version and one built from the latest source?.

My concern comes from the libraries as I've seen that the first recommendation when building from source is to remove old versions:

WARNING: You have to remove all KDevelop packages provided by your distribution. If you don't do that, binary compatibility issues will eventually lead to crashes and undefined behavior.

What would be the best way to do it?.

Thanks,

It is generally possible to run both distribution installed and self-compiled versions of applications on the same system - provided they are isolated from each other.

Unless you are compiling the entire of KDE however, this won't be possible - so you need to remove one or the other in that case.

Thanks for your answer. I know two different versions could be run in the same machine in certain cases, e.g. I have two Eclipses in my machine.

This question is aimed to Kdevelop as for what I understand from the compiling guide, versions would not be isolated in that case. Am I right doing this assumption?. I don't want to try to build it again and mess up my current version from the repository.

Thanks,

Yes, the versions would not be seperated in that case - as KDE uses a cache called the Sycoca which stores information on plugins, etc - so even though they are in seperate on disk locations, the two versions still find each others plugins.
