I am unable to open Okular or Ark on my computer. (Arch 32-bit, KDE 4.8 )
When I try opening Okular, I get a dialog that says "Unable to find the Okular component" and then get a completely blank Okular window. When I try opening Ark, I get a similar dialog that says "Unable to find Ark's KPart component, please check your installation." Neither prints any messages when opened in a terminal. |

sounds like you are missing some libraries, did it used to work and did you recently do an upgrade?

Hah, yeah... alright, what happened here... I had been previously trying out Parabola GNU/Linux on this system, and when I switched back to regular Arch I forgot to switch one package... kdelibs-libre was still installed on my system rather than kdelibs. Didn't realize it until I upgraded to 4.8.1 and everything broke.
But yeah, evidently that was the problem as both programs now work just fine. |

How did you install Kile and Okular?
Does Kile function correctly?

Can you please run "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental" in a terminal, then try starting Okular again?

is poppler installed? "okular component" could (operative word is "could") mean that poppler is not installed
poppler is what does the actual pdf rendering |

If installing Poppler does not correct the issue, can you provide a screenshot of the error message Okular gives you?

it says that "unable to find ocular component". I checked and reinstalled poppler using these steps
sudo port clean okular sudo port install poppler +qt4 +quartz sudo port install okular sudo port -v install kde4-kile and checked but it still says that "unable to find ocular component". |

Not a problem. It is likely that the subsequent build of Okular included Poppler support - which your original build was missing.
