how can I create password protected archives (zip, 7z...) with ark and gui? Couldn't find any option/setting.

If not possible, can anyone recommend a alternative utility with qt gui?

try peazip http://peazip.sourceforge.net/ or file-roller (probably lot of Gnome dependencies though)

Is Ark improvement on the todo list? Its very disappointing in the current state.

I had trouble with peazip... When double clicking the downloaded .deb QApt Programm Installer crashes (not necessarily KDE problem but ubuntu). And with
"dpkg -i ...deb" I get

libqt4pas5 is installed. Used File roller now.

The problem with QApt crashing seems to be down to a faulty .deb file. I could just installed a different one without problems.

So the peazip deb is most probably faulty.

you could try the version on the PeaZip site http://peazip.sourceforge.net/peazip-linux.html

Thats the one that doesnt work:

peazip is not available in the ubuntu repositories.

Still, I would like ARK to be able to create password protected archives. Nicely integrated with Dolphin

your peazip error looks like the .deb was not fully downloaded, also you could try the portable version (there are instructions on how to add to Dolphin service menu)

In regards to getting Ark to support password protected archives, I would recommend making a feature request at bugs.kde.org.
