I can't share a folder in a "guest" Kubuntu on VMware. I have installed Tools, enabled and selected a folder to share, restarted a dozen times, tried fixes such as
"apt-get install open-vm-dkms" and "mkdir /mnt/hgfs/my_shared_folder mount -t vmhgfs .host:/my_shared_folder /mnt/hgfs/my_shared_folder" that was suggested by a blogger. Nothing is working. Can anybody help me out. I hate having to resort to using dropbox which wastes memory. |

Have you tried following the steps at http://www.vmware.com/support/ws4/doc/r ... ld_ws.html
According to their documentation, shared folders should automatically appear at /mnt/hgfs/. Have you tried running the following as root?
Make sure the directory /mnt/hgfs/ exists, and is empty when you run this. Further, run "mount" and make sure no other mounts are using /mnt/hgfs (and unmount them if needed).
