I can drag-n-drop characters from kcharselect to kwrite, to korganizer (when writing a new event), to non kde apps like Apache OpenOffice or firefox... but I cannot do the same with konqueror, rekonq or Calligra Words: if I try to drag-n-drop a character to a text box on rekonq (for example, when writing on a forum) nothing happens (I can see the plus on the mouse pointer, but the character is not inserted). Doing the same on konqueror or Calligra Words the mouse pointer indicates me that this will never happen (red circle with a white X).

Of course, if I select the character with a double click and then click on "copy to clipboard" I can paste it without problems... but that is not the same than a quick drag-n-drop.

Any idea why drag-n-drop from kcharselect do not work with some apps?

I was able to drag Latin (A-Z) characters from KCharSelect to Konqueror without problems.
Unfortunately I don't have Rekonq or Calligra Words available on my system to test.

Any characters which are affected in particular?

It makes no difference which character I try: Latin characters or special glyphs, it is the same.

Which version of KDE are you using? If you select text from any application (I used a selection from a Quassel log in this case) and drag that into the applications affected, does that work?

I'm using KDE SC 4.8.4 on openSUSE 11.4, 64 bits.

Drag and drop from kwrite to rekonq do not work either (the other way round, from rekonq to kwrite, works as expected...), same with konqueror. It is not possible to drag and drop from konqueror to rekonq.

Does this work under a new user?

No, it is exactly the same problem (doing it right now)

I would recommend updating to KDE 4.9.0 at this time. An update to Qt would likely fix this.

Thanks, upgrading is always a good idea... but I cannot modify my system right now (I'm on the middle of a project). I need to live with this for the next few months, it seems.
