I had a very similar problem (except Konsole was working) on openSUSE. I resolved it by installing libkonq4 instead of libkonq5. Not sure whether this will work for you.

We have hit paydirt. According to the Ubuntu Intrepid file list for kdelibs5, nothing from it should be located in /lib/. You have libkio.so.5, libkdeui.so.5, libkdecore.so.5 in /lib, while the package states they should be in /usr/lib.

I would say linux is finding the versions in /lib first, causing the symbol lookup errors as it loads the versions from /lib before searching in /usr/lib. remove those three files from /lib and Konsole, Konqueror and Yakuake should spring to life. note that it may stop KTouch from working, which updating / installing the package should solve.

On reboot, those files reappear. :-O How can I stop this from happening?

I know why. Try looking for:
/lib/libkio.so.5.1.0
/lib/libkdeui.so.5.1.0
/lib/libkdecore.so.5.1.0

If they exist then remove them, and anything like them ( eg: libkio.so.5, libkio.so.5.1, etc. ) this happens because the system automatically creates symlinks in the appropriate folder with the short names of libraries ( eg: libkio.so.5.1.0 becomes libkio.so ). By removing the originals, you will stop it from recreating them in the future.

The following command should return nothing when you have removed all traces of them: find /lib | grep libkio

If it gets anything, post the results here.
